WATER SAFETY CLASSES
Did you know that it is possible for a person to drown in as little as a TEASPOON of water?
The various courses associated with the American Red Cross Water Safety program provides communities with the information needed to keep families safe in and around any type of aquatic environment. Programs include:
LEARN TO SWIM PROGRAM
The seven levels of our Learn to Swim program teaches children and adults of all ages various aspects of Swimming, Diving, and Water Safety. Topics include proper lifejacket use; knowledge of the 6 major swimming strokes (Front & Back Crawl, Breastroke, Sidestroke, Elementary Backstroke, Butterfly); and proper diving techniques.
INFANT AND PRESCHOOL AQUATIC PROGRAM
A special course designed for children and their parents, the Infant and Preschool Aquatic Program (IPAP) contains three levels of participation: Infant (6 mo. - 2 yr.); Toddler (2 - 4 yr.); and Preschool (3 - 5 yr.) The course is formulated to teach parents proper techniques to acquaint their children with an aquatic environment and and promotes nurturing their children within this environment for a sense of security in the water.
COMMUNITY WATER SAFETY
This course is designed to educate community members on the dangers of varying aquatic environments, and provides them with basic rescue knowledge for themselves and for others. Topics include: Safety around Various Aquatic Facilities; Reaching Assists; Throwing Assists; H.E.L.P. and Huddle Positions for Cold Water; and How to Make Your Clothing into Temporary Flotation Devices.
LONGFELLOW'S WHALE TALES
This course is designed to teach children basic concepts of Water Safety, and covers such topics as what to do if you get into trouble, and how to properly wear lifejackets. Subject matter is covered in a fun way with the use of a cartoon video for children, and topics are discussed with catchy phrases such as "Reach or Throw, Don't Go" and "Don't Just Pack It, Wear Your Jacket."
